The handbook is a decision system. It keeps music, words, artwork and releases distinct but related—different rooms inside the same house.

Every release should alter the room around the listener. It can move, but it never shouts. It can be melancholic, but it leaves a trace of warmth.
Ask whether a choice creates a place, not whether it displays technique.
Let grooves and details become richer on the third listen, not exhausted on the first.

When a track drifts right, simplify it. The compass is not a ban; it is a directional bias that protects the identity.

Each world changes the climate. The underlying musical grammar remains recognisable.
MOVEMENT, NOT IMPACT
Four-to-the-floor is the centre of gravity, not a cage. Use swing, ghost notes, brushed textures and hand percussion. The groove should carry a long drive without demanding attention.
COLOUR OVER COMPLEXITY
Use open voicings and unresolved tones. Harmony should feel emotionally specific but never sentimental—one beautiful chord can do more than a crowded progression.
SPACE IS AN INSTRUMENT
Layer sounds like a landscape, not a wall. Rain, wind, sea, footsteps and fire can establish place. Reverb creates distance; delay creates memory.
THE VOICE AS WEATHER
Never over-sing. Leave long instrumental passages. A phrase may return like a landmark, altered by harmony, distance or echo.

05 · LYRIC LANGUAGE
Lyrics are fragments of scenery. They create emotional landmarks while leaving room for the listener to enter.
Use concrete images, sensory detail, repetition, short lines, negative space and bilingual fragments.
Avoid exposition, forced rhyme, motivational slogans, crowded verses and generic romance.

Artwork should feel discovered rather than designed: a precise frame from a film that does not exist.
Charcoal, fjord blue, moss, weathered copper and mist.

Skunk Patterns is an independent Icelandic music project built around atmosphere, rhythm and curiosity.
Moving through deep house, dub, jazz, organic electronics and cinematic sound, each release belongs to its own sound world—a place with a particular climate, colour and emotional temperature.
The music is created through a collaboration between human direction and artificial intelligence. AI helps generate possibilities, but the identity comes from selection: shaping the concept, refining the sound, choosing what belongs and deciding what should remain unheard.
This is music made for driving, working, dreaming and disappearing into for a while.
